I've always had a number of songs that I normally listen to on repeat in order to get inspired, Babe, I'm gonna leave you by Led Zeppelin obviously being the main one, but sometimes I'll find a new song and add it to the list.
I've always had a soft spot for the new romantic band "Depeche Mode" after my Mum bought me one of their albums and told me they used to be her favourite band as a kid. I was listening to it today and one of the songs seriously grabbed my attention for a BIGLY song.

I had a study-break today, as my next exam isn't until wednesday, and so I decided to catch up on some needed photoshopping. I had practically forgotten how to use it within 1 month of non-usage, it took me forever to remember how to do things. But! There was some productivity, and here are the fruits of my labour!

Check out Jared's left leg. In the original, Jo had a finger pointed at Dean, but I had to remove it because it just looked really weird next to Alexis. So I basically had to paint over her hand/finger, and give Jared a leg that was previously blocked out, and complete the rest of his cast.
Dead in the water has been surprisingly hard to write.
It's proving rather difficult to grasp the transition between Emily Roser and Emmy Roser.
However, it is happening, inch by inch, and some time around the 25th of June, it should be finished. I know no one really cares at the moment, but perhaps when we spread the word on fanfic.net when we're ready to upload people might care about the past behind the story, how many hours of character creating, writing, correction and recorrection it took to concoct the story they're reading. I know when I personally read, I very rarely think of the effort that has gone into every word, and the author's thoughts during the process of writing, so I guess that's why I think the whole blogging malarky is quite important, if not extremely brilliant at distracting me from revision.
ANYWHO, here's an extract, to prove that I have in fact been writing. Screw you biology exam, you can give me a headache, but you won't kill my imagination!
“You’re lying!” She concluded. Dean shrugged his shoulders toward his brother before turning to face the girl.
“You figured us out. We’re actually spies.” His sarcasm planted the first seed of doubt in Emmy’s mind. He started walking again.
“No, but seriously. I don’t get it,” She spoke to their bulky backs. “Why lie? Why are you investigating the death of some girl in a lake? No offence, but that’s kind of a sucky reason to lie.”
“Okay, look. Emily.” Emmy winced. “Sam and I aren’t Park Rangers. We’re investigating these drownings for reasons you probably won’t believe. So why don’t you zip it for a bit while we think, okay? Awesome, thanks.”
Emmy looked stunned for a second before continuing to follow the brothers. Sam, unaware she hadn’t run away yet, turned back to face her.
“Are you following us?” He questioned her, not waiting for an answer. “Look, thank you, Really. But we can take it from here. We can drive you to the nearest bus station or something if you want?”
Emmy paused, “But you’ve intrigued me. First you’re park rangers. Then you’re…well I don’t actually know, but I know I want to stick around and find out what you two are up to.”
“On one condition,” Dean told her sternly. “Don’t ask too many questions?”
I've only ever had the experience of two OCs in my past, Ella and Alyssa Strolle. Back in the day, I didn't even know what the term "OC" or "Own Character" meant. All I knew, was the characters were ficticious and I had placed them in the world of supernatural and built a story around it.
Emmy, in my eyes, was my very first "own character".
Disappointed by the severe lack of normal (notice how they're all kick-ass Huntresses?) girls in the supernatural fanfiction OC library, my co-writer and I had decided to attempt to create our own, never to be written nor published on fanfiction.net. Ever. This we promised ourselves, as whatever we created would probably turn out to be some form of self-insertion or Mary Sue, as most of the time they always did.
Yet somehow, as we sat around doing nothing at lunchtime in school, the ideas of two characters began to form before our very own eyes. We each called responsibility for one of them, so we could focus on creating two very different people with different views and different backgrounds.
I'm not quite sure what Lauren's original name was going to be, but I do remember that originally for Emmy: I had the name "Judith" written down. Partly because I liked the name "Judy" and partly because of the Perfect Circle song. My co-writer said she didn't see her as a Judy, so we went back to the drawing board. That night, the name Emmy popped into my head. I presented it to my friend, and she loved it, believing the name fit the personality. We set about naming the other girl.
The character's names, after deliberation, finally came to be. Lauren Sarah Murray and Emily "Emmy" Jayne Roser were "born". As much as we had told ourselves we wouldn't write anything, we couldn't help it. We decided the character's had become pretty unique, and that we believed we should at least put it on fanfiction to see what people thought of them. To see if our hard work had been worth it. (We're still writing hehe).
I got pretty bored, and had recently found the joys of vidding supernatural and putting the vids on youtube. I wanted two actresses to at least portray the characters, so at some point I could bundle together a couple of clips and make a promo of sorts. For Lauren, the softly spoken religious girl, I wanted someone who was equally as soft spoken, someone who looked far younger than their age, someone who looked Naive. For Emmy, I wanted a dark brunette actress, someone who would counteract the Californian (Santa Monica, California was chosen to be Emmy's birthplace) stereotype.
"Casting" Emily Roser
After scouring the internet, I found someone that I recognised, Kat Dennings. I liked her, but there was just something about her. Too young? Too serious looking? I wasn't sure. She just wasn't it. She didn't make the cut, and I continued on my epic quest. Then, I found Krysten Ritter. Her bangs, black hair and playful style seemed to be a winner in my books. About to send a link to my co-writer, I noticed an article that read, "Krysten Ritter. The new Zooey Deschanel?" Confused as to how the hell you spelt the second name, I typed her into google. The winning picture?
Why this one, I hear you ask? (sort of).
The bangs were like Krysten's, but softer, her smile was playful and she looked like your everyday run of the mill girl-next-door. She wasn't perfection, but yet pretty. Also? She looked like she'd get her ass handed to her in a fight. I researched the chick, and soon found myself liking her more and more. The movies she was in portrayed her in a quirky fashion, with "winter passing" showing she could do emotionally messed up too. In short: she was Emily Roser all over.
Then I gradually started loving Zooey more and more, watching all her films to give myself a better picture of her personality, and what I saw, I liked/loved. I'd been wanting bangs for a while, but I was terrified the hair-dresser would mess them up, or that I wouldn't suit them. I took a risk and asked for straight across bangs. I was happy with the result. A year later, ask me who my idol is, you'll get a straight answer. Zooey Deschanel.
"Casting" of Lauren Murray
Lauren was an old college friend of Sam. Pretty much all I knew when I started looking for actresses I could use to portray the two girls. All I knew was she had to be slightly "baby-faced". I wanted her to look innocent, and actually mean it. You know those slightly annoying characters that look innocent, then they turn around and kick all three Winchester's asses (Yes, even John), before making out with them? Exactly.
I was watching a repeat of an episode of gilmore girls (actually my first episode) on E4, and the youngest female lead (at that point in the show) was dating...Dean. Played by Jared Padalecki. They had brilliant chemistry together, and watching the relationship between mother and daughter really inspired me on the whole Lauren and Emmy friendship thing. I looked up the actress and I automatically liked her. Alexis Bledel was exactly what I was looking for, baby-faced, innocent and slightly femininely nerdy looking.
The winning picture for Lauren?
We had our girls. Then came the writing. The planning. The 3am conversations on msn about what was going on, how the girls fitted in, how long their stories would last (as we all know, people who are close to the winchesters don't seem to live very long).
As they say, it wasn't the end. Only the beginning.
